Amory (Miss.) three-star interior offensive lineman Kobe Williams has had a big year on the recruiting front picking up nearly all of his 24 offers since January. Memphis was one of the first schools to offer Williams back in February.

His sixth offer overall, Williams repaid that loyalty from the Tigers committing to Memphis Tuesday afternoon. He chose Memphis over Arkansas State and Houston.

It was a long, hard battle between those three schools,” Williams told On3. “All three are great programs with great coaching staffs and it was tough. I can only pick one and Memphis is it for me.”

Williams said he came to his decision Monday evening after sitting down and talking with his dad. Prior to his commitment Williams had visited Memphis three times prior.

He was on campus last Wednesday for an unofficial trip. This latest trip was more for his dad to get a feel of the school and the coaching staff.

“The first two times, my dad wasn’t with me, so I wanted him to see it,” said Williams, the No. 1,132 player in the 2024 class. “We both felt great about the visit. We hung out with the coaches the whole day and they showed us around and what they had to offer. It was a great time and after talking with him Monday night, I made my decision.”

Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield’s background as as a former offensive line coach is something that Williams said played a real factor in helping him make his decision.

He also plans on studying business and Memphis has one of the top business programs in the country. It also didn’t hurt that the school wasn’t far from home.

“I’m excited to call Memphis home,” Williams said. “I’ve been up to the Memphis area many times throughout my life and I feel at home there. I can see myself playing there and hope to fulfill my dream, which is to play in the NFL. I believe in Coach Silverfield and Coach Myers.”
