Former Louisville linebacker Jaylin Alderman is expected to transfer to Miami for the 2024 season, On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed. He spent the past three seasons with the Cardinals and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Alderman started 13 games this past season to finish with 58 tackles (7.5 for loss) and 1.5 sacks. His eight tackles in a 56-28 victory against Boston College marked a career high and he should have a chance to be a key contributor for the Hurricanes.

As a recruit, Alderman was a three-star prospect out of Valdosta (GA) High School. He ranked as the No. 1,253 overall player and No. 131 linebacker in the 2021 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Alderman played 13 games as a true freshman in 2021 and had the highlight of his season when he returned an interception 66 yards for the game-winning touchdown against UCF. He ended that first year with 17 tackles.

Alderman did not play in the 2022 season as he took a redshirt year.

Miami has so far brought in 11 players through the transfer portal while losing 29. The Hurricanes rank No. 24 overall and No. 6 in the ACC according to On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

The Hurricanes are coming off of a 7-6 season in which they ranked No. 45 in scoring defense and No. 24 in total defense. They are set to return starting linebacker Francisco Mauigoa, who led the team with 82 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks in 2023.

Miami also brings back Wesley Bissainthe, who ranked sixth on the team with 44 tackles (6.5 for loss) and two sacks this past season. Those are just a couple of the names in the linebacker room whom Alderman will compete with for reps this year.
