Miami announces the addition of Virginia Tech transfer Lynn Kidd
Center Lynn Kidd will stay in the ACC yet again after starting his career at Clemson and spending the last three seasons at Virginia Tech. With Miami announcing Thursday that Kidd will be on the Hurricanes’ squad ahead of the 2024-2025 season after entering the NCAA transfer portal.
“We are extremely happy to have Lynn join us because he is an incredibly gifted offensive scorer around the basket and who I considered the most improved player in the ACC this past season,” Miami head coach Jim Larrañaga said in a statement. “He has put in the work to take his game to the next level. His work ethic is unmatched and he will bring maturity and four years of ACC experience to our team.”
Kidd only made seven game appearances, all off the bench, in his true freshman season at Clemson where he averaged just 1.1 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. And taking his talents to Blacksburg his sophomore year, he showed steady improvement season by season, which culminated to his most recent breakout year.
Kidd started in all 33 games last season for Virginia Tech, averaging a career-high 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds in his 23.3 minutes per game. Boasting a team and ACC-leading 66.8% field goal percentage on the season with Hurricanes’ center Norchad Omier trailing behind him. With his field foal percentage ranking No. 4 across college basketball last season, but he also boasted an impressive 84.2% free throw percentage last season from the center position.
He averaged 0.7 points and 5.0 points per game in his first two seasons with the Hokies before doubling his production in nearly every stat category in his most recent season with Virginia Tech. And if he continues progressing this way, Kidd could make a major impact for Miami next season. Joining Miami with 1,254 points and 350 rebounds under his belt.
Kidd played high school basketball at IMG Academy in Bradenton (FL), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 145 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
