Marcus Freeman gives BIG update on taking a transfer portal quarterback + Notre Dame injury updates

Notre Dame has two games left until the conclusion of their campaign. However, two players for the Fighting Irish will already be missing the remainder of the season according to Marcus Freeman.

Freeman provided injury updates for a trio of players during his press conference on Monday. He started with OL Rocco Spindler who will miss the rest of this fall after a knee injury that will require a surgery.

“Rocco Spindler had a knee injury. So he’ll get surgery this week and be out for the season,” said Freeman.

Spindler, a third-year member of Notre Dame’s offensive line, had started in all 10 contests so far in 2023.

Freeman also announced that S Luke Talich will also be unavailble for the final two games. This news comes after he broke his collarbone during practice and had to undergo surgery as well.

“Luke Talich got injured in practice, broke his collarbone. He had to get surgery so he will be out for the rest of the year,” said Freeman.

Talich, a freshman in South Bend out of Cody, Wyoming, had made appearances in eight matchups in his first collegiate year.

To close, Freeman had slightly more positive news regarding OL Zeke Correll. While the graduate senior remains in protocol for a concussion, they have not ruled him out yet against Wake Forest this weekend.

“Zeke Correll is still in concussion protocol and, right now, we’ll say he’s questionable for Saturday,” Freeman said.

With two games to go, Notre Dame has a chance to finish with nine wins in ’23 which, depending on a bowl victory, could match or exceed the win total from Freeman’s first season in ’22. They’ll have to do so without the services of Spindler and Talich, though, while Correll’s status remains up in the air as of Monday.

Notre Dame at Stanford to kick off at 7 p.m. ET on the Pac-12 Network

Notre Dame will close out its regular season in prime time at Stanford. The Irish and Cardinals will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 25 in Palo Alto, Calif., the Pac-12 announced Monday morning.

The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. It will likely be the last telecast in the history of said network.

With Stanford located on the west coast, the matchup will kick off at 4 p.m. local time.

Notre Dame is currently 7-3 and are a heavy favorite to be 8-3 when they travel to northern California. They’re currently a favorite over Wake Forest, whom they face at 3:30 p.m. ET this coming Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, by 25 points. That’s according to Sportsbook Wire.
