Cameron Barnes will reportedly enter the transfer portal after not appearing for Ole Miss this season.

Per Tobias Bass of The Athletic, Barnes is planning on entering the portal after his freshman season in Oxford.

Barnes redshirted this past year for the Rebels for his first collegiate year. Chris Beard shared that update in this preseason as the best course of action for his career in all their minds.

“I think the plan, as of right now? Things could change. Cam is going to be a special player down the line,” said Beard. “It looks like a redshirt might be his possibility this year.”

Barnes played high school basketball at Duncanville in Texas. He was a three-star prospect there and the No. 183 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also rated as the No. 26 center in the class and a Top-20 player out of the state.

If Barnes were to eventually enter, he would be the third loss of the portal cycle for Ole Miss. Rashaud Marshall and Malique Ewin have already entered their names in with Marshall having already committed to Arkansas State.

The Rebels remained high on Barnes’ potential in the long term, even if he didn’t appear this past year for them. That leaves his talents to be someone else’s gain if he does in fact officially enter and search for a new program.

Tony Perkins hearing from extensive list of suitors

Iowa guard Tony Perkins recently decided to enter the transfer portal to see what kind of options he’d have across the college basketball landscape. In less than 24 hours, Perkins has heard from an extensive list of schools according to On3’s Jamie Shaw.

He has heard from the likes of OklahomaKansasArkansasVirginiaVirginia TechUCLA, and many others. It’s looking like he’s one of the hotter commodities in the portal thus far. He was recently listed in the top ten of the prospects that hit the portal on Tuesday, coming in at No. 6 for On3’s Jamie Shaw.
