The Texas A&M Aggies will play their final road series of the season against the Ole Miss Rebels starting Friday. The Rebels have not had the season they had hoped for, but that is not stopping Aggies’ skipper Jim Schlossnagle from being weary of his upcoming opponent.

Recently, Schlossnagle addressed Texas A&M’s upcoming road series against Ole Miss, breaking down what he’s seen from their SEC foe season despite their slump.

“I mean, yeah, [we] still gotta go on the road in the SEC, and it’s full of awesome SEC players. They have really good pitching in terms of the stuff that I’ve seen on television,” said Schlossnagle. “The transfer from Duke, Fisher; he has had as much of an impact hitter as there is in our league, including the guys we have on our team. I think the guys got like 20 homers.”

“We’ve proven that we can win anywhere and lose anywhere. LSU wasn’t playing that great; we went [played them], and they got it going. So we have to go play good baseball and try to find a way to win a series.”

Andrew Fisher has been a bright spot for Ole Miss this season despite their lackluster year. Over 47 games and 178 at-bats, he has a batting average of .303 with 54 hits at nineteen home runs for 50 three RBIs on the year.

The Rebels have a championship pedigree, winning the College Baseball World Series in 2022, which Schlossnagle is looking to do for the Aggies this year. But in order to do so, as the Texas A&M head coach said, they have to take you to go play good baseball and be sure not to overlook opponents such as Ole Miss no matter how much they appeared to be struggling on the season.

Schlossnagle stresses importance of finishing out non-conference slate at home

Following a 2-1 series loss to LSU over the weekend, Texas A&M bounced back on Tuesday in their final non-conference game of the regular season. Forcing a run-rule against Rice in a 16-3 win at home to remain a perfect 25-0 against non-SEC opponents this season for the first time since 2015.

The Aggies’ record is now 41-8 on the year, with just six games and two series remaining before the postseason. Following their recent win over the Owls, Jim Schlossnagle spoke about the significance of the win.

“I think it was good to get back in front of our fans,” Schlossnagle said. “Those trips, especially when you have to bus it over and back, it felt longer than it actually was. Just not used to that, not that we’re prima donnas or anything we can handle a bus trip, it’s just not something that we’ve done in the past. So got back later, it was hot down there, but tonight was great.”
