Jimbo Fisher reveals what he wants to see from mid-year enrollees at Texas A&M spring game
Texas A&M brought in a highly touted recruiting class this year, and 11 of those recruits enrolled early. With the spring game coming up this weekend, Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher explained what he wants to see from those players.
Fisher hauled in the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, according to the On3 Consensus Team Rankings. One of the 11 early enrollees is Five Star Plus+ wide receiver Evan Stewart — the No. 5 recruit in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Three other five-star players will be on the field in Saturday’s spring game, including national top-25 players Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy and Denver Harris. Quarterback Conner Weigman is another early enrollee and came in at No. 26 in the nation, while four-star defensive lineman Anthony Lucas checked in at No. 41 — meaning Texas A&M had five top-50 recruits enroll early.
That’s a lot of talent coming onto the Aggies’ roster this season, and Fisher knows it. But they still have to get acclimated with the college game, and that’s something he hopes can start this weekend. He broke down what exactly he’s looking for from his young core.
“Can they go out there and keep their pose, get the play call, get the check, get the alignment, get the assignment, understand their techniques, not have pre-snap penalties and function within the organization or the [offensive] or defensive call that was made,” Fisher said. “And then perform and like I [said], produce and finalize on the plays or tackles or whatever they’ve got to do.”

Those incoming freshmen are going to see some star power at the game. The Aggies are bringing in a plethora of big names from Texas A&M past for a halftime flag football game. It’s all part of the program’s 120th season of football.
All told, 33 former Texas A&M stars will be back in College Station with Tank Marshall coming back as an honorary coach for the 2022 Aggie Legends Flag Football Game, the program announced Thursday. Johnny Manziel will serve as the all-time quarterback and throw for both teams, while Mike Evans and Cullen Gillaspia will be the head coaches for the maroon and white teams, respectively.
The matchup will take place at halftime of the Maroon & White Game, which is coming up Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. Here’s the full lineup for the game.
