Kentucky transfer forward Adou Thiero visiting Pitt
Kentucky transfer Adou Thiero is taking a visit to Pitt, he posted on his Instagram story. He entered the transfer portal following the departure of John Calipari for Arkansas.
Thiero officially entered the portal March 28 and recently cut his list to five schools, including a potential return to Kentucky. He is also considering Arkansas, Indiana and North Carolina, in addition to Pitt, On3’s Joe Tipton confirmed.
Thiero raised some eyebrows with a recent Instagram post showing a large UK logo. That post spurred speculation that he was leaning toward coming back to Kentucky, though nothing definitive has actually come from it. Now, he’s visiting Pitt as he weighs his options in the portal.
Thiero averaged 7.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in 2023-24. He shot 49.2 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line. He would have been a big piece of the Wildcats roster in 2024-25 but it now appears as though he won’t be a part of the program.
Thiero signed with Kentucky as a three-star recruit and the No. 265 overall player in the country in the class of 2022, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He appeared in 20 games as a true freshman, recording 2.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.
This past season, Thiero had a much bigger role, serving as a starter in several games for the Wildcats.
Prior to coming to Kentucky Adou Thiero attended Quaker Valley High School. As a senior there, he averaged 23.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 3.9 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
Thiero played only seven minutes in the NCAA Tournament against Oakland, a game that Kentucky lost 80-76. He finished with 2 points and 1 assist on the night.
Since John Calipari accepted the offer to become Arkansas‘ next head coach, seven Wildcats have entered the transfer portal and three have entered the draft. Further, four of Kentucky’s highly-touted 2024 signees have re-opened their recruitment.
Kentucky got a big boost from the transfer market on Saturday, though, when former Oklahoma guard Otega Oweh announced his commitment to the Wildcats. He averaged 11.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game this past season while shooting 49.3% from the field and 37.7% from beyond the arc.
