Former Vanderbilt and Mississippi State quarterback Mike Wright has committed to Northwestern, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. ESPN’s Pete Thamel had first report.

Wright heads over to the Big Ten Conference following four seasons in the SEC, spending the first three years of his career Vanderbilt before spending a season at Mississippi State last year. Joining Wildcats for his final season of eligibility with 2,520 passing yards and 24 touchdowns in his career.

In his true freshman season with the Commodores Wright saw action in six games, completing six of his 10 pass attempts for 51 yards and a touchdown apiece through the air and on the ground. Which was followed by a breakout sophomore season where he threw for a career-high 1,042 yards, eight touchdowns, and six interceptions. Also rushing for 373 yards and a rushing touchdown after starting in five of the final six games of the season with 10 total game appearances in 2021.

Wright was voted as a team captain ahead of his junior season, once again making six starts in his 10 games appearances where he threw for 974 yards and a career-high 12 touchdown passes with just four interceptions. Boasting his best season on the ground as well with 517 rushing yards and five scores on the ground before transferring to Mississippi State.

Last season Wright appeared in 12 games and made three starts for the Bulldogs, throwing for 453 yards and three passing touchdowns on the year plus 324 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Helping lead Mississippi State to their lone SEC win of the season over Arkansas in a matchup where he led the team in rushing and passing, which he did twice last season.

Wright played high school football at Woodward Academy in Atlanta (GA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 574 overall recruit and the No. 39 ranked quarterback in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Coming out of high school, Wright narrowed his top two schools down to Northwestern and Vanderbilt before choosing the Commodores. But now as a graduate transfer he’s decided on the Wildcats, headed to Evanston with high chances of earning the starting job under center for second-year head coach David Braun.
