The Baltimore Ravens opted for quarterback Devin Leary late in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. And now we know what the former Kentucky star will earn if he makes the team.

Leary will sign a four-year contract worth a total of $4.14591 million. That averages to $1.035 million annually..

Quarterbacks dominated the early portion of the NFL Draft, with six going in the top 12 during Thursday’s first round. But since then, there haven’t been that many quarterbacks selected. There were none during Friday’s second and third round.

Then on Saturday, the Saints selected South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler in the fifth round. The Jets followed with Florida State’s Jordan Travis. In the sixth, Tennessee’s Joe Milton was the quarterback off the board. Then Baltimore picked Leary, who started his career at North Carolina State.

Ravens looking at Leary as backup to Lamar Jackson

In pre-draft analysis, Leary wasn’t ranked as highly as others. NFL.com listed him as the 11th best quarterback available.

Lance Zierlein, a draft analyst for NFL.com, posted this scouting report on the newest Ravens quarterback.

“Inconsistent pocket passer with slightly below-average size coming off a two-year run that seemed to kill the legitimate buzz created in his sophomore season. Leary’s tape shows flashes of accuracy, touch and football intelligence, but it’s not sustained often enough.

“He has an NFL arm with good life on his drive throws and might have potential in a play-action based passing scheme if a coach can iron out some of the field-reading and decision-making issues. Leary’s receivers did him few favors, and there are enough splashy throws to make him a dark-horse prospect worthy of a late Day 3 selection.”

Obviously, the Ravens aren’t looking to Leary to be their starting quarterback. Lamar Jackson is the reigning NFL MVP. But Jackson’s backup is 37-year-old Josh Johnson. Malik Cunningham, a former Louisville star, also is on the roster. Cunningham spent last season with the Patriots. He can also be used at receiver.
