Former Ohio State linebacker Tommy Eichenberg was selected by the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 148 pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Eichenberg played four seasons with the Buckeyes and had a career-best season in 2022, logging 120 tackles. Last season, Eichenberg had 82 total tackles, 41 solo tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery.

Over the course of his career, he had 268 total tackles, 151 solo tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, five pass deflections, one fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one defensive touchdown.

As a member of the Class of 2019, Eichenberg was a four-star recruit out of Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 10 overall prospect in the state, the No. 43 linebacker in the class and the No. 367 overall prospect in the class.

What draft analysts are saying about Tommy Eichenberg

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein broke down the film of Eichenberg and gave his evaluation. Eichenberg was a projected fifth round pick.

“Eichenberg is passionate and tough with the desired mindset of an inside linebacker,” Zierlein wrote. “While he plays with good physicality at the point of attack, he’s more of a fit-and-fill linebacker than one who will make plays and disrupt what the offense is trying to do in the run game.

“He’s a straight-line mover lacking ideal bend, speed and agility for open-field tackling and coverage duties. The production looks great but it might not translate into a long-term NFL run.”
