Former Alabama star Brandon Miller named to NBA All-Rookie First Team
Former Alabama men’s basketball star Brandon Miller was selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team on Monday, the league announced. Miller was joined on the All-Rookie First Team by Chet Holmgren, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Brandin Podziemski and Victor Wembanyama.
Miller was a three-time Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honoree in his first season, as he averaged 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 68 starts for the Charlotte Hornets. The No. 2 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Miller recorded 2.5 threes per game and 184 total 3-pointers, which rank third and fourth, respectively, among rookies in NBA history.
Miller was one of three rookies to rank in the top 10 among first-year players in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks per game, joining Wembanyama and Amen Thompson. He was selected to participate in the Rising Stars event at All-Star weekend in Indianapolis.
An All-American at Alabama in 2022-23, Miller is the first Crimson Tide player to be named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team since Antonio McDyess received the honors in 1995-96.
The media voting panel selected five players for the NBA All-Rookie First Team and five for the second team (at any position). Players received two points for each first-team vote and one for each second-team vote. Miller earned 97 first-place votes and one second-place vote for a total of 195. Holgren and Wembanyama were unanimous choices (198 points).
