Newsstand: Notre Dame offers elite 2026 safety from South Carolina
The Notre Dame staff has been all over the country the past couple weeks to evaluate prospects, and they’ve been offering new prospects.
On Monday morning, the staff extended an offer to Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe’s J’Zavien Currence, who ranks as the No. 82 overall prospect and No. 10 safety in the country per the 2026 On3 Industry Ranking. He’s also the top prospect in the state of South Carolina.
The On3 Industry is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four major recruiting media services. The On3 Industry Ranking is the most advanced, complete and unbiased rating and ranking measurement in the industry.
Per On3’s own rankings, Currence is the No. 89 player and No. 9 safety in the land as well as the top overall prospect in South Carolina.
Notre Dame joins the likes of Georgia, Florida, Florida State, USC and Tennessee on the 6-2, 195-pounder’s early offer list.
On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine currently favors in-state South Carolina. The Gamecocks have a 30.1 percent chance of landing the four-star safety. Georgia and Florida are running second and third, respectively.
He’s still a high school sophomore, but Currence is at more of an advanced stage of his recruiting process than most his class. He’s already taken a reported 14 college recruiting visits, including four to South Carolina.
If Notre Dame hopes to have a chance with Currence, it’ll need to get him on campus sooner than later.
