Crimson Countdown: No. 25 Daeh McCullough
The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2023 Oklahoma football season. It’s the second season under head coach Brent Venables and expectations are high once again. The Sooners are looking to rebound from the uncharacteristic 6-7 season in 2022.

2023 outlook:
Sometimes everything comes into place. That’s how Daeh McCullough landed in Norman alongside brother, Dasan. A combo recruitment of sorts with Dasan hitting the transfer portal and Luke Fickell’s departure from Cincinnati that ended with the McCullough brothers in Crimson and Cream. It was their dream, and it has been realized.
And make no mistake about it. Daeh’s recruitment and subsequent arrival to Norman wasn’t just a way of getting big bro to town. He can play. Better said: he will play someday in the Sooners defensive backfield. As a senior at Saint Joseph High School in South Bend, Daeh recorded 60 tackles, one sack and an interception in seven games.
McCullough has started his career in Norman at safety.
2023 defensive back outlook:
There’s been plenty of talk about competitive depth in preseason camp and the safety position is a great example. Brandon Hall has stocked his safety room with returners (Billy Bowman, Key Lawrence and Robert Spears-Jennings), the transfer portal (Reggie Pearson) and the recruiting trail (5-star Peyton Bowen, Daeh McCullough and Erik McCarty). There’s plenty of talent to roam around in the Sooners secondary that is expected to be as good as it has been in years. A positive for a defense looking to take the next step in Brent Venables second season.
