Little has gone well for Ole Miss baseball in 2024.

Andrew Fischer, however, is a glaring, obvious exception.

Fischer is a sophomore in his first Ole Miss season following a transfer from Duke. He was a headliner in a Top 10 portal class signed in the off-season.

Fischer, an infielder/designated hitter, leads Ole Miss in home runs (18), OPS (1.096), RBI (52), slugging (.686) and total bases. He has 11 homers in SEC play, including three in the Rebels’ series win at Auburn over the weekend.

It was just their third league win of the year and first on the road since 2022.

“He’s always impressive,” Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco said of Fischer earlier this season. Bianco is in his 24th season leading the Rebels. “He’s a special talent and brings so much energy. A lot of power, and a guy that can really get some good swings off.

“If you’re going to try to bat a right-handed lineup, he’s one of the left-handers that get to stay in.”

Fischer hit a home run, scored at least one run and drove in three or more in every game of the Auburn series.

Ole Miss (25-22, 9-15 SEC) next hosts Murray State (30-18, 11-10 MVC). The Rebels welcome No. 2 Texas A&M for three this weekend.

Fischer drove in nearly half of the Rebels’ runs over the weekend (11 of 25). His 11 RBI were the most in the SEC. His 18 total bases were second-most.

Fischer’s hitting .360 (17-46) with 18 RBI, 11 runs scored and five home runs over his last 12 games.

“There’s going to be a bunch of noise out there of people telling you what teams are good and what teams are bad,” Fischer said in March following the Rebels’ series win over South Carolina. “We don’t really look much into that. Just show up every day and try to be the same team.”

Fischer slashed .289/.404/.595 as a Duke freshman last season. He had 11 home runs, 12 doubles, four triples and 33 RBI.
