Miami transfer DL Jared Harrison-Hunte an instant starter for SMU

As SMU football nears its first season competing in the ACC, On the Pony Express will break down the transfer classes of every team in the conference.

The series continues with Stanford, currently ranked No. 15 out of 17 teams in the ACC. Stanford is another team that doesn’t utilize the portal much. The Cardinal add just two while losing 12.

That gives Stanford a -11 Index Score in the On3’s Team Transfer Portal Index.

Stanford Transfer Class Breakdown

Both of Stanford’s transfers play on the defensive side of the ball in cornerback Jaivion Green and linebacker Jahsiah Galvan.

Green comes to the Cardinal from Washington. He played in 24 games over two seasons including all 15 this past year. Green finished with 12 tackles and one pass breakup in 2023.

Galvan was a Phil Steele Freshman All-American First Team selection after leading Northern Iowa in tackles with 77. He also had 5.5 tackles for loss, an interception and forced a fumble.

Key Losses

One of the biggest losses in terms of production is safety Alaka’i Gilman. He was fifth on the team last year with 50 tackles and added an interception and three pass breakups.

The highest rated transfer out is tight end Ben Yurosek. He was All-Pac 12 honorable mention last year after being a second team pick following the 2022 season.

The biggest name to transfer out is EJ Smith, son of Dallas Cowboys great Emmitt Smith. He was also the highest rated high school recruit to leave. Though he only rushed for 557 yards and five touchdowns over his four seasons in Palo Alto.

The other four-star recruits to leave are quarterback Ari Patu, offensive tackle James Pogorelc and linebacker Aaron Armitage.
