Nebraska Baseball Hc Will Bolt Previews Final Regular Season Series At Michigan State I Huskers

Nebraska infielder Cayden Brumbaugh missed about two weeks with a hand injury, returning to the lineup over the weekend in a series against Indiana.

However, the sophomore was kept out of the lineup in the final game of the series on Sunday, raising questions about his availability for a series against Michigan State this weekend.

“So he wasn’t feeling great on Sunday,” coach Will Bolt said. “We sat him Sunday. He hasn’t swung a bat this week, by design because I’m just trying to save his bullets, so to speak, for the game. He’ll hit tonight when we get (to East Lansing).”

Brumbaugh didn’t have a ton of success at the plate, going 0-for-6. He did, however, draw a walk in each contest he played in, managing to get on base. He turned one of those into a run scored, as well.

Nebraska will be significantly better if Cayden Brumbaugh can get back to full health before the postseason begins.

“He felt good when he was out there playing, it was just the next day, Saturday morning I think he felt better than he thought he would but then Sunday morning he was pretty sore,” Bolt said. “See if he can get the bat going a little bit tonight and then I would expect him to be ready to go this weekend.”

Nebraska is set to take on Michigan State this weekend in a series that will begin on Thursday and conclude on Saturday. The Cornhuskers would love to see Cayden Brumbaugh get back to his old self.

When he’s on, he’s really good.

Even with the shaky appearances at the plate this weekend, Brumbaugh boasts a .320 batting average on the season. He has 14 extra-base hits: 11 doubles and three triples. He also has 18 RBI and has drawn 19 walks.

That’s a lot of production, frequently giving Nebraska a base-runner it can move around. He also has 11 steals, so he’s a threat on the base paths.

In any case, Nebraska will continue to see how he feels moving forward. But Bolt feels good about his steady infielder getting back to form sooner than later.
