Why Georgia Are A Near Lock To Make CFP

Details have been released for one of the most anticipated games of the 2024 college football season. Clemson and Georgia will kick off at Noon to open the upcoming season, ESPN announced on Tuesday.

The matchup between the two powerhouse programs will be televised by ABC. It will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Clemson and Georgia are accustomed to meeting in big games. The two programs have played 65 times, with UGA holding an edge in the series.

The most recent matchup between the two teams came in Charlotte in 2021, with Georgia earning a 10-3 victory.

The Bulldogs are coming off of a 13-1 year that included a beat down of an undermanned Florida State team in the Orange Bowl.

Clemson finished 9-4 last season, failing to reach the 10-win mark for the first time since 2010. The Tigers did end the year with five straight wins, including a 38-35 victory over Kentucky in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.

Clemson and Georgia have been two of the top programs in college football for the past decade as they have combined to win four national titles since 2016.

The Tigers won the national championship in 2016 and 2018, while UGA earned national titles in 2021 and 2022.

Both programs are expected to contend for a College Football Playoff spot again in 2024. With that said, Georgia is viewed as more of a national title contender heading into the season. The Tigers have failed to reach the College Football Playoff for three straight years, after reaching the CFP six straight seasons from 2015-2020.

Both teams should have a better idea of what kind of team they will have in 2024 after the opener in Atlanta.
