Former LSU tight end Connor Gilbreath commits to Boise State
Former LSU tight end Connor Gilbreath has committed to Boise State, he announced via X on Tuesday. Gilbreath will be on his third school in as many seasons after beginning his career at junior college.
A nice pickup for Boise State, adding somebody with SEC experience, even if it was for only a year. Gilbreath will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Broncos.
Gilbreath was a weapon in the LSU offense last season, being used in the short-yardage package. While he did not record a statistic with the Tigers, the tight end played in all 13 games and received 56 snaps. A season-high of 18 snaps were recorded during the home opener against Grambling during the nonconference portion of the schedule.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 265 pounds, it’s easy to see why head coach Brian Kelly wanted Gilbreath near the line of scrimmage when needing to pick up a short first down.
Boise State has been quite active in the NCAA transfer portal, with Gilbreath making it near double-digit additions for the Broncos. The most notable player has been former Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Malachi Nelson after his one season with USC.
Another five-star prospect during his high school days, former Texas A&M wide receiver Chris Marshall, will also suit up for Boise State during the 2024 season.
Outside of those three, head coach Spencer Danielson has brought in three other guys who previously played for Power Five programs. A nice influx of talent for Boise State, a team used to being one of the top Group of Five schools in the country.

It’s a new era for college football, especially the Group of Five programs. They can now automatically qualify for the College Football Playoff by being the highest-ranked conference champion at their level. Boise State fans certainly wish this was around in the earlier during the Broncos’ legendary run but there is still hope moving forward.
Along with the usual Mountain West Conference foes, Boise State will face three teams who played in the Pac-12 a season ago. Oregon is the main nonconference showdown, taking place on Sept. 7 at Autzen Stadium.
Oregon State and Washington State appear on the schedule too thanks to an agreement with the MWC.
An opportunity will be there for Boise State to make some noise in Year One under Danielson after he went 3-1 as the interim head coach to close out the season.
