Former Penn State running back London Montgomery will transfer to East Carolina for the upcoming season, he announced Saturday via Instagram. Montgomery was a true freshman this past year with the Nittany Lions and will have four years of eligibility remaining after redshirting.

As a recruit, Montgomery was a three-star prospect out of Scranton Prep (PA). He ranked as the No. 513 overall player and No. 36 running back in the 2023 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Montgomery led Scranton Prep with 2,360 yards rushing and 35 touchdowns as a junior in 2021 as the team finished 11-1 and won a district title. Unfortunately, he missed his senior season after suffering a knee injury in the preseason.

Despite this, the talent he showed in his junior year still got him offers from the Michigan, Louisville, Iowa and others in addition to Penn State. He’ll aim to realize the potential he flashed then as he joins a Pirates team coming off of a 2-10 finish in 2023.

London Montgomery was the second Penn State running back to enter the transfer portal this offseason along with David Kency. The Nittany Lions have lost 16 players while adding six through the transfer portal to rank No. 45 overall according to On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

Penn State transfer safety King Mack commits to Alabama

After entering the NCAA transfer portal on May 2, former Penn State safety King Mack has decided on his next destination. Committing to Alabama as he’ll take his talents to the SEC down in Tuscaloosa ahead of the Crimson Tide’s first season under head coach Kalen DeBoer.

Mack exited from the Penn State program following just one full season with the Nittany Lions, re-opening up his recruitment after being a highly sought after high school prospect and one of the best players in the state of Florida for the 2023 recruiting class.

In his lone season in Happy Valley, Mack served primarily as a reserve safety and a contributor on special teams. But did appear in all 13 games of the Nittany Lions’ 10-win season. Recording three tackles and one quarterback hurry in the first season of college football.

Mack played high school football at St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale (FL) where he was a four-star prospect. Ranked the No. 93 overall recruit and the No. 8 safety in the 2023 cycle, according to On3’s Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
