Kansas City Chiefs OL Wanya Morris, Chukwuebuka Godrick arrested for marijuana charges
Two members of the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line were arrested late Thursday on marijuana charges, according to FOX 4 KC’s Harold Kuntz. Both players were later released on bond.
Police arrested Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick in Johnson County for marijuana and THC possession. Both charges are misdemeanors, and they posted their $2,500 bond.
Morris and Godrick are coming off their rookie seasons with the Chiefs on the offensive line. Kansas City selected Morris in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft after playing at Tennessee and Oklahoma, while Godrick signed as an undrafted free agent out of the international ranks.
It’s been a tumultuous offseason for the Chiefs after wide receiver Rashee Rice turned himself in to police for his involvement in a multi-car crash. He’s facing multiple charges, including including counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and one count of aggravated assault. Earlier this month, Rice also came under investigation for allegedly hitting a photographer at a nightclub in Dallas.
For his role in the crash, as the NFL worked through the investigation, ESPN’s Adam Schefter predicted a multi-game suspension could be on the table for Rice after a breakout rookie campaign in 2023.
“Let’s start with, obviously, there are major legal ramifications that he’s going to have to go through here, and we’ll see what the court system plays out [and] how the process plays itself out,” Schefter said during the NFL Draft. “But from an NFL standpoint, there’s the very real possibility that at this point in time, Rashee Rice is going to be facing discipline from the NFL, a multi-game suspension.
“So the Chiefs have to know that they can’t count on having them and that there’s the real possibility you were right that they’re going to lose him for multiple games, at the very least. Before that incident, the Chiefs already had a need at the wide receiver position. Now, you look at the idea that Rashee Rice may not be there for the start of the season, possibly longer, and you really need to upgrade that spot in addition to the offensive line.”
Kansas City added to its receiver room after the Rice news came out, trading up to select former Texas star Xavier Worthy with the No. 28 overall pick. Worthy opened plenty of eyes at the NFL Scouting Combine this year when he broke the record for a 40-yard dash, recording a 4.21-second official time.
