With LSU looking on the outside in when it comes to the NCAA Tournament, Saturday was the last game at Alex Box Stadium for the 2024 season. Some players will be moving on in just a few weeks, with Tommy White expected to be one of them. White is certainly a fan favorite in Baton Rouge and was treated as such when leaving the field.

In the bottom of the eighth inning against Ole Miss, White flew out in what was likely his last at-bat in an LSU uniform. A routine play for everyone involved but as he jogged back into the dugout, Tiger fans got on their feet to give White a standing ovation.

He pointed into the crowd and seemingly waved goodbye before treating his teammates with a row of high fives. White was a great player for LSU and was a major part of the national championship-winning team. Nobody around the program will forget his contributions, even if only two seasons were spent with LSU.

LSU is heading to Hoover for the SEC Tournament, meaning White will have at least one more game wearing the gold jersey. And with how well Tiger fans travel, he may get to play in front a few of them before wrapping up his college career.

Tommy White wraps up incredible college baseball career

White began his college baseball career at NC State where he became a social media star as a true freshman. In what felt like every weekend, White had hit another home run and finished with 27 during the 2022 season. He went on to enter the NCAA transfer portal and quickly landed with the LSU Tigers.

Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes may have gotten most of the headlines during the national championship run but having White in the lineup gave LSU the nation’s top one-two punch. A career-best average of .374 with an OPS of 1.157 was consistent throughout the entire season. White added 24 home runs and 105 RBIs.

This past year has not been at the same level, having a .339 average with 21 home runs, 58 RBIs, and an OPS of 1.086. Still incredible numbers and a season that will certainly help his future.

Earlier in the month, On3’s Jonathan Wagner put together a first-round MLB Mock Draft. White was featured as the No. 20 overall pick, being selected by the Toronto Blue Jays. It would mark the third consecutive season LSU has had a player picked in the first round, a first since 2010-2012.
