Dan Lanning and Oregon have been on a recruiting heater — both with high school and transfer targets — since December. The Ducks brought in one of the nation’s best classes out of the portal this winter and spring, and combined it with the nation’s No. 4 overall recruiting class in 2024.

They’ve started the 2025 cycle with equally as much momentum, pulling six blue-chip (four- and five-star) commitments already, all ranked in the top 300 nationally. They added to that haul yet again on Friday with the addition of four-star Belleville (Ill.) Althoff athlete Dierre Hill, who chose the Ducks over Missouri, Ohio State, Illinois and others.

“What excites me about my opportunity is that I could be somewhere special there as they show me and tell!” Hill previously told On3’s Steve Wiltfong.

His commitment gives the Ducks their seventh in the cycle, but it also moves them just outside the top five of the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. With him in the fold, Oregon sits at No. 6 nationally, just behind Notre Dame, who already has 20 commitments.

More on the Ducks’ 2025 recruiting class

Hill joins a class headlined by Tampa Bay (Fla.) Tech five-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson, who ranks No. 22 nationally in the On3 Industry Ranking, and San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln four-star quarterback Akili Smith Jr.

The son of former Ducks star and NFL top-5 pick Akili Smith, Akili Jr. grew up around the program wearing Ducks gear and has been an avid recruiter for them since his commitment.

“It means the world to me to be committed to Oregon,” he told On3. “It has always been my dream to be a Duck. Since I have been able to walk, my dad has had me in Oregon stuff, I have watched a lot of Oregon games and this is a dream coming true. I get to carry on my dad’s legacy, start my own legacy and at the same time play for a great program like Oregon and push for my dreams to reach the NFL.”

They’re joined by four-stars Nasir Wyatt, Isaiah Mozee, Matthew Johnson and Cooper Perry in Oregon’s class. Wyatt is the latest to join the folder before Hill, announcing his commitment earlier this month.

“Oregon has shown me everything I needed to see,” he told On3’s Chad Simmons. “I have had them on top of my list for a while, but I was young, I was still exploring my options, but Oregon is where I want to be.
