SMU will reportedly add a new staff member to its football program, hiring a guy from Baylor to serve in a similar role with the Mustangs this coming season.

According to Matt Zenitz of 247 sports, associate director of player personnel at Baylor, Connor Morgan, is moving to SMU to become the director of player personnel there — a nice little bump in title for Morgan. Here was Zenitz’ report of that news, which he tweeted out Wednesday morning:

“SMU is hiring Baylor’s Connor Morgan as its new director of player personnel, sources tell @247Sports. Spent the last three years at Baylor under Dave Aranda, including most recently as an associate director of player personnel for the Bears. Previously worked at Alabama.”

Even though the school itself had yet to officially announce the move when Zenitz sent the tweet, Baylor Athletics has already deleted Connor Morgan’s profile off of their website. A message that says “the page you are looking for no longer exists” shows up with a 404 error code when you click on the link for Morgan’s profile.

If there was any doubt this move was happening, this is certainly a pretty good sign that Morgan is no longer with the Bears.

SMU makes other addition

The Mustangs also recently added a new member to their program on the football field in former Arkansas offensive lineman Andrew Chamblee, who recently committed to SMU.

He was one of the top offensive linemen available in the transfer portal, appearing in 12 games for the Razorbacks last season while making eight starts. He was named to the 2023 SEC All-Freshman Team.

The Arkansas native was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 16 offensive tackle in the country in the class of 2022, per the On3 Industry rankings.

Chamblee played 405 snaps for the Razorbacks, the sixth most on the Arkansas offensive line. He was rated at a 40.9 pass-blocking grade and a 55.9 run-blocking grade, according to Pro Football Focus.

Last month, it was shared that Chamblee was no longer part of the Arkansas program. The original report suggested that he had “lost the love for the game” but would not be transferring as he planned to continue his life as a student in Fayetteville.

Now, a few weeks later, that is no longer the case for Chamblee as he will be continuing his college football career in Dallas in 2024.
