Roswell (Ga.) 2024 edge Chase Morrison didn’t see a need to drag things out any longer. Virginia was home.

Morrison committed to the Cavaliers on Wednesday. He made his decision well before announcing it. Morrison was sitting through a presentation in Charlottesville last weekend and turned to his mother and made up his mind.

“I just looked over at my mom and I said ‘I’m going to commit’,” Morrison said. “It just feels right. It feels like home. I don’t need to see anymore.”

Morrison intended on taking other official visits. Virginia blew him away.

“I had planned to take more officials, I hadn’t set them up but I was going to set some up,” Morrison said. “After this official visit, I didn’t see the need to. I know where I want to be and I know it’s home.”

For Morrison, Virginia was high on his board prior to the official visit. A lot of the attraction to Virginia came because of defensive ends coach Chris Slade.

Morrison loves that Slade has NFL experience as a player. Slade is also a former star at Virgina. Morrison feels that combination could be big for his development down the road.

“I’ve been heavy on Virginia ever since I first talked to coach Slade,” Morrison said. “He’s a very real coach. When I went up on an unofficial the first time, I loved talking to coach (Tony) Elliott. It was a good conversation… Coach Slade is a huge part of why I’m going there. He holds the sack record there and he’s got 50-plus sacks in the NFL. He’s got what I need to get to the league and do the best that I can do.”

Chase Morrison believes in what Virginia can be

Elliott is in his second season as head coach at Virginia. Morrison can feel the culture that’s been built in Charlottesville.

He feels Elliott and the rest of the staff bring a genuine mindset to coaching.

“He’s very real,” Morrison said. “Some coaches, you talk to them and they sound like they have your best interests but they only mean so much. Coach Elliott wants what’s best for you. He keeps it real. If it’s something that you might not like he tells you. He was amazing at Clemson and he brought a lot of guys with him. I think he knows his plan. He already knows his plan. He knows what he wants to do with Virginia and I think he’s going to accomplish it especially with more and more recruits coming in. It;ll be fun.”
