What a race for Carson Kvapil today, folks. He came from deep in the field to lead laps and ultimately finished P2 to Ryan Truex at Dover. Kvapil made his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Martinsville a few weeks ago and in two starts has two top-5 finishes.

P2 might be the worst position to finish in all of motorsports. Racing in the iconic JR Motorsports No. 88 car, Carson Kvapil made the most of his day. He had, in my opinion, the best overall race out of anyone else on the track.

Kvapil learned in real time how to race this Xfinity car at Dover. Last night in the ARCA race was his first time racing laps at Dover in his life. He finished P3 in that race as Connor Zilisch won.

Then starting P26, Kvapil marched his way to the front and almost won this race. Had he taken the bottom on the final restart, he might have won this thing and shocked the NASCAR world.

Here is what Carson Kvapil had to say after just coming up short at Dover.

“It just felt like, I don’t know, I thought we had a pretty good restart on the one before with [Austin] Hill there. I don’t know, I just, God it sucks, right? To get that close. I don’t even really know what to say, I think we had a really fast Chevrolet here. JR Motorsports brought me a really good piece and I’m just really fortunate to be in the spot that I am.

“I’m happy that I had a shot to win the race at the end there but we had a good car, I just couldn’t really get it through the restarts really good. I was pretty questionable about the top line, my car seemed to pin the bottom the whole day but just seemed like the top was so dominant and he just barely got us there going into [turn] three.”

When Carson Kvapil started the race today, I’m not sure he thought he could win. Throughout the race he gained confidence and at the end he felt comfortable enough to fight for the lead and take it. Yes, he came up P2. It was a warning shot to the Xfinity Series as well as the rest of NASCAR.

Next year we are likely going to see Kvapil in a lot more races. It would be shocking if he isn’t racing full-time in the Xfinity or Truck Series next season.
