Back in January, news broke that former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin was under criminal investigation by a local police department. Now, that investigation is closed.

There still are no details as to what officers with the Allen Police Department were investigating. The Dallas Morning News reported late Friday that the police closed the case weeks ago. There were no charges filed. The city of Allen is an affluent suburb north of Dallas.

Pro Football Talk broke the news in January that Michael Irvin could be in legal trouble. But again, there were no details. The Allen PD confirmed to the outlet that there was an investigation.

“There has been an allegation, but we are not prepared to release any details at this time due to our investigation being in its very early stages,” Allen PD spokesperson Jonathan Maness told PFT.

So did Irvin’s lawyer, Levi McCathern. The attorney told the Morning News: “Michael hasn’t done anything wrong, so not even sure what an investigation could be about.” McCathern told PFT there was “absolutely no truth” to the accusation. He also said it was “much ado about nothing.”

It was good news, bad news month for Michael Irvin

The Allen PD’s decision was good news for Irvin. But he received some bad career news earlier in the month. NFL Network, which is owned by the NFL, declined to pick up Irvin’s contract. It was reported as a cost-cutting move. He’d worked as an analyst for the network since 2009.

This isn’t the first time Michael Irvin has faced misconduct allegations, even in the past 18 months. In the leadup to February, 2023 Super Bowl in Phoenix, a Marriott employee accused Irvin of making harassing and inappropriate comments towards her. She worked for the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel, where Irvin was a guest. He was in Phoenix on a work assignment to cover the pre-game events.

The hotel asked him to pack his bags and leave. Meanwhile, the NFL Network and ESPN each pulled the Pro Football Hall of Famer from their Super Bowl coverage. As the months passed, Irvin didn’t return to the NFL Network until right before the start of the 2023 regular season. By that time, he’d settled a $100 million defamation suit he filed against Marriott. Terms of the settlement weren’t revealed. The former Cowboys superstar then took a job as a contributor to Fox Sports.
