Scottie Scheffler might have come up short in the 2024 PGA Championship this weekend, but he certainly gave one fan the souvenir of a lifetime. After drilling them with an errant tee shot, Scheffler was quick to give the fan a signed glove, something they’ll never forget.

Scheffler showed that he is human after all this weekend with one “bad” round (73 in Round 3), but he still managed to finish in the Top 10, finishing at 13-under par for a T8. He still had three incredible rounds of 67, 66, and 65, saving his best round for the last day at Valhalla. It’s still miraculous he shot a 66 the morning after getting arrested on Friday. Thankfully, the charges against him are expected to be dropped, and smarter heads prevailed.

Scheffler’s record in the majors continues to be flat-out amazing. In his first 19 career major starts, the Texan has two wins and 11 Top 10 finishes. The last player to have 11-plus top tens and multiple wins in their first 19 career major starts? Tom Watson. That stat was brought to you by Justin Ray of Twenty-First Group.

Another mind-boggling stat on Scheffler from Ray. Sunday was his 35th round of 65 or better in the last three PGA Tour seasons, seven more than any other player in that span. Writers have run out of words to describe Scheffler’s dominance over the years and it’s easy to see why.

Coming into the 2024 PGA Championship, Scheffler was at +2.84 strokes gained tee-to-green per round this year. Keep in mind, the highest such number in PGA Tour history in that stat category was Tiger Woods in 2006, when was at +2.98 strokes gained tee to green per round. In 2023, Scottie Scheffler posted +2.61 strokes gained tee-to-green per round, already ranking him among the greats in PGA Tour history. The fact that he’s ahead of that pace this year is incredible. Those stats were from The Golf Channel.

Consider this, his worst finish since January has been T17th at The American Express. He followed that up with a T6 at Pebble Beach, T3 at the Waste Management Open, and T10 at The Genesis Invitational. Then he’s recently gone on a historic run that will be hard for anyone in the history of golf to match: win at Arnold Palmer, win at TPC Sawgrass, T2 at Texas Children’s Houston Open, win at RBC Heritage, and T8 at PGA Championship.

It’ll be fascinating to see what Scheffler does the rest of the year and watch him continue to take aim at history.

Xander Schauffele finally got the monkey off his back in the 2024 PGA Championship, edging out Bryson DeChambeau, finishing at 21-under par. It was the first major victory of his career for Schauffele, who has had a number of close calls over the years.
