Auburn Spring Intel | J.D. Breaks Down Trip to Campus

Fort Walton Beach (Fla.) cornerback Dante Core has committed to Auburn.

Core, who previously was committed to South Florida, announced his decision Saturday on social media. He committed to Auburn over offers from Ole Miss, LSU, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Missouri, N.C. State, Boston College, South Florida and Rutgers, among others.

“I just felt like (Auburn) is a great fit for me,” he said. “It feels like home. The hospitality is great. I love all the staff, love the coaches, love the culture and love what they’re building.”

Core’s decision comes after a visit to Auburn on Saturday. It was his second visit to the Plains. His first came for A-Day in April. He came on Saturday with a group of family members, including parents, grandparents and siblings.

“Ever since I stepped foot on campus they made me feel important,” he said. “The fans are great. The energy is great. Everything. There is nothing not to love about Auburn.”

Core has strong bond with Auburn CB coach

Auburn offered Core on March 12 and steadily climbed up his board. A big reason for the ascent is cornerbacks coach Wesley McGriff.

“That’s my guy,” he said. “He’s important to me. He’s been the one who has been the most active in my recruitment process. Coach Crime is a great guy. He’s always been there for me and I can’t wait to get coached by him.”

Core plans to return to Auburn for an official visit on June 14-15. He also has official visits set to Rutgers on May 31-June 2, Ole Miss on June 7-9 and USF on July 21-23.

“I’m coming,” he said. “I’m ready to get to work. I feel great about my commitment to Auburn.”

As a junior, Core had 22 tackles, a tackle for loss, two interceptions and four pass deflections. He also played wide receiver where he had 10 receptions for 232 yards and two touchdowns. He had a big sophomore season the year before recording 62 tackles, including 56 solos, an interception and two forced fumbles.

Core has yet to be ranked by On3 or Rivals.com. 247 Sports has him rated as the No. 58 cornerback in the country and No. 75 overall recruit in Florida.

Core, who is listed at six-feet tall and 165 pounds, is commitment No. 11 in Auburn’s 2025 class. He is the second cornerback, joining Buford (Ga.) four-star cornerback Devin Williams.
