Just a few days after Kentucky linebacker Trevin Wallace heard his name called in the third round of the NFL Draft, his talented younger brother announced he will not be following in Trevin’s footsteps.

Tavion Wallace shared on social media Tuesday morning that he’s narrowed his list to five finalists. Kentucky isn’t one of them. Florida, LSU, Georiga, Arkansas, and Florida State will be fighting down the stretch for his services.

The younger Wallace is one of the five best linebacker prospects in the 2024 recruiting class. The South Georgia native is the No. 46 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s ranked higher than his brother was three years ago. After defeating Florida last fall, Trevin admitted that Tavion is the best player in the family.

Tavion Wallace frequented Lexington and traveled to away games to follow his brother throughout his Kentucky career. Even though he enjoyed the hospitality, it never felt like Tavion was eager to follow his brother’s lead.

Florida State has long been considered the favorite in his recruitment. He said just that in a conversation with On3’s Chad Simmons last week.

“Florida State makes me feel special.” He added, “What makes Florida State my top school is the consistency. It feels like family every time I go back for a visit. The coaches are great, their message is always the same and they want to make me a better man and better player. That always stood out to me.”

It was a long shot from the get-go, but it nonetheless stings. Amaree Williams was another Kentucky legacy recruit who considered the Wildcats. The son of former UK running back Moe Williams visited campus a few times, but it was always going to be Florida State. The talented EDGE committed to the Seminoles in February.

Family connections are a great start. Kentucky got its foot in the door early for Williams and Wallace, but the Wildcats struggled to gain enough traction to seriously contend for the Top 200 talents.
