Collin Chandler is Mark Pope's first recruiting win at Kentucky

A wild week at Valhalla Golf Club will come to a close on Sunday. The final round of the PGA Championship kicks off on Sunday in Louisville with the final group set to tee off on No. 1 at 2:35 p.m. ET.

The golf was not boring on Moving Day.

Shane Lowry tied a major championship record with a bogey-free round of nine-under 62 to move to 13-under. The 2019 Open Champion is now just two shots off the lead. Louisville (Ky.) St. Xavier product Justin Thomas fired a four-under 67 on Saturday to move to 10-under for the tournament. The 31-year-old is looking for his third Wanamaker Trophy and could be someone to watch closely today. After a wild Friday, Scottie Scheffler finally came back crashing down on the front nine with a 2-over 73 that included a double bogey on hole No. 2 that created a hole that the No. 1 player in the world could never climb out of. Scheffler sits at 7-under for the tournament and is now eight strokes off the lead.

Everyone has been chasing Xander Schauffele since Thursday. The world No. 3 player is still looking for his first major championship after going 62-68-68 to get to 15-under. Collin Morikawa has joined him at 15-under after shooting 67 on Saturday. Morikawa will be playing for his third major championship (2020 PGA Championship, 2021 Open Championship) at age 27.

Viktor Hovland (-13) and Sahith Theegala (-14) are both top-15 players in the world ranking who are also in range. Bryson DeChambeau is lurking at 13-under. The leaderboard is stacked. Sunday has a chance to be a memorable one at the PGA Championship.

Mark Pope, Kentucky at EYBL Indianapolis

A major recruiting event is taking place this weekend in Indianapolis. Nike EYBL is hosting a huge AAU event in Reggie Miller’s town. New Kentucky head coach Mark Pope and his staff are there with numerous other college coaches for recruiting purposes. KSR has boots on the ground to provide coverage.

The event will wrap up on Sunday. But first, let’s take a look back at what we learned on Saturday.

KSR will have more coverage of the recruiting event late today and early next week as Pope’s new staff begins to build relationships with 2025 high school prospects.

Kentucky baseball will be No. 3 seed in 2024 SEC Tournament

Kentucky’s season came to an end on Saturday afternoon at Kentucky Proud Park with a 12-4 loss to Vanderbilt as Tim Corbin’s team avoided the sweep in Lexington. That defeat helped open the door for Tennessee to tie Kentucky at the top of the SEC standings with both teams at 22 conference wins.

That created a tie at the top bringing tiebreakers to the table for the 2024 SEC Tournament. Tennessee earned the No. 1 seed thanks to a 2-1 head-to-head record vs. the Bat Cats. Arkansas earned the No. 2 seed at 20-10 thanks to an SEC West title. Kentucky will begin the SEC Tournament in Hoover as the No. 3 seed.

Kentucky gets a bye to start the tournament avoiding the single-elimination play-in round. Postseason action for Nick Mingione’s club will begin on Wednesday when UK faces the winner of Georgia/LSU at 10:30 a.m. ET/9:30 a.m. CT at the Hoover Met. A double-elimination format will be in place for Kentucky until the semifinals on Saturday. A champion will be crowned on Sunday afternoon before the NCAA Tournament Selection Show.

Postseason baseball has arrived. Kentucky will begin its potential run to Omaha this week.

Kentucky softball season comes to end in NCAA Regional

Following a terrific start to the NCAA Tournament on Friday that saw a walk-off game-winner, Kentucky softball could not keep the good times rolling on Saturday in Stillwater

The Wildcats made it into the winner’s bracket with a 4-3 win in the opener on Friday night but dropped the first game on Saturday to Oklahoma State and then lost the rematch against Michigan later that night.

As a result, Kentucky’s 2024 season comes to an end with a 31-24 overall record and 15 consecutive seasons of making the NCAA Tournament. No. 5 Oklahoma State and Michigan will meet on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Wolverines will need to beat the host Cowgirls twice to advance to the super regionals.

A pair of Game 7s in the NBA playoffs

Some will be tuned to the PGA Championship at Valhalla, but we’ve got some high-stakes playoff basketball also on the slate on Sunday. A pair of Game 7s are set to take place after the Dallas Mavericks complete a furious second-half comeback on Saturday to close at the No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder in six games and advance to the franchise’s second Western Conference Finals appearance in three seasons.

Both conference finals will be locked in after today.

The party gets started in Eastern Conference at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC with the New York Knicks hosting the Indiana Pacers. We are still waiting for a road team to win its first game in the series. The winner will advance to face the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.

At 8:00 p.m. ET on TNT, the series will return to the Mile High City with the Denver Nuggets hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves in this No. 2 vs. No. 3 matchup. The road team is 4-2 in this series, but the home squad won Game 5 and Game 6. The winner of this Game 7 will own home-court advantage in the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Mavericks.

An excellent sports television day has arrived.
