Michigan State lands Miami transfer LB Marcellius Pulliam
Michigan State received a transfer portal commitment from former Miami (FL) linebacker Marcellius Pulliam on Friday. He announced his decision via social media. Pulliam took an official visit to East Lansing before announcing his decision.
The newest Spartan portal commitment spent last season with Miami, where he logged one tackle and one interception while playing mostly on special teams.
“Of the four freshmen linebackers it’s Pulliam that has gotten a lot of buzz,” On3’s CaneSport writer Matt Shodell wrote in the fall of 2023. “And at 6-3 and 230 pounds he’s a potential game-wrecker with sideline to sideline speed and enough size and physicality to make offensive players pay when they have the ball in their hands.”
Pulliam has three seasons of eligibility remaining. Michigan State needed a young, talented addition to its linebacker room, which is expected to graduate seniors Jordan Turner and Cal Haladay following the 2024 season.
The linebacker is originally a class of 2023 recruit like current Spartan sophomore Jordan Hall, the lone high school linebacker signee in Michigan State’s 2023 class. Michigan State defensive coordinator Joe Rossi signed just one linebacker – in-state product Brady Pretzlaff – in the class of 2024 as well.
Pulliam committed to Miami over offers from Auburn, Louisville, Kentucky and others out of high school. He was a three-star transfer prospect and the No. 554 overall player in the 2024 On3 Transfer Portal Rankings. Pulliam was also the No. 48 linebacker in the portal.
Pulliam was a three-star high school recruit out of Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 67 prospect from Georgia, the No. 72 linebacker and the No. 701 overall prospect in the 2023 class.
