The Michigan Wolverines added four transfer portal defensive backs to close out the week as they round out the depth on that side of the ball. Competition will no longer be a concern heading into fall camp for the Wolverines.

Thursday night, the team added FCS All-American cornerback Aamir Hall out of the transfer portal, followed by a pair of commits Friday in former Georgia Tech/Tennessee/Louisville safety Wesley Walker and Michigan State safety Jaden Mangham. Saturday morning saw the team close the deal with UNLV corner Ricky Johnson III, who had previously committed to Washington State out of the portal.

The group of transfer portal additions helps in the cornerback room by Hall and Johnson stepping in to compete for the No. 2 job across from Will Johnson. Sophomore Jyaire Hill will also have a say in that battle. Walker and Mangham will round out a safety group that needed experience after Rod Moore’s season-ending knee injury in spring ball and Keon Sabb’s transfer to Alabama. The rotation will include graduates Makari Paige and Quinten Johnson with plenty of intrigue heading into the summer.

More moves could be on the way, namely at defensive tackle, as the team looks to keep its national title window open into the 2024 campaign.

Michigan quote of the day

“I’m not trying to compare anybody to JJ, but he was a great leader last year and we all knew that we could just follow him. We all knew he was going to do his job, So that’s what we need out of the quarterback this year. I’m not saying we don’t have a quarterback that has none of that. But I’m saying whoever our number one is, he is gonna have to show that we can follow him into the fire. That’s what a lot of people on our team respected about JJ last year. And I was one of them, I respected him because of that.”
