Penn State basketball is hitting the road to face Virginia Tech in the Basketball Hall of Fame Baltimore Series this season. And, as of Wednesday morning, hoops season ticket holders and Nittany Lion Club members get a first crack at tickets for it.

According to an email sent on Wednesday morning, Penn State basketball’s date with the Hokies on Friday, Nov. 15 at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore begins a presale at 10 a.m. Wednesday. On May 22 at 10 a.m., tickets for the game then go on sale to the general public.

(Update: Ticket prices range from $19 to $225.)

A tip time has not yet been announced for the game, which is part of a doubleheader with Villanova and Virginia meeting in the other matchup. The order of the two games also has not yet been announced.

The venue’s set-up and ticket sections is available at Ticketmaster and is posted below.

Penn State nonconference schedule takes shape

The game between the Hokies and Nittany Lions represents the first major matchup announced for Penn State in Mike Rhoades’ second season at the helm in Happy Valley. But, it is likely not the only game in store for the program given his perspective on taking his team out on the road to play in different venues.

“You heard me from day one talking about thinking outside the box. Let’s do some different things with Penn State basketball. Maybe that’s been done in the past and it’s been pretty cool. Let’s repeat it,” Rhoades said ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. “Or, let’s try to find some other things, other ideas. And let’s throw it up against the wall, see what sticks.

“(Jimmy Martelli) knows what I like when it comes to scheduling and trying to find some great games, but also timing, and seeing that we could play at different places.”

Virginia Tech finished 19-15 overall last season with a 10-10 mark in ACC play. The performance earned the Hokies an eight-seed in the ACC Tournament. They then dropped a second-round game to nine-seed Florida State. Reaching the NIT as a three-seed, Virginia Tech lost to Ohio State in the second round. That came after topping Richmond in the opener.

In addition to the Virginia Tech game in Baltimore, Penn State is expected to participate in the 2024 Sunshine Slam in Daytona Beach during Thanksgiving week in November. The eight-team tournament is expected to feature two four-team brackets. Other teams currently included in the event are Clemson, San Francisco, and Fordham. Matchups for the tournament have not yet been determined.
