We start with a note on the football team. Redshirt freshman walk-on Samuel Siafa was previously listed on the program’s roster as an offensive lineman. However, after jumping 10 pounds from 269 to 279 during winter workouts, he will start spring practice as a defensive tackle. The move may have been long in the works. Siafa, who is from Downingtown, Pa., and was a high school teammate of Penn State tackle Drew Shelton, was twice picked as the coaching staff’s Developmental Squad Defensive Player of the Week last fall. However, the roster now reflects that the change has been made.
In other news, Penn State basketball opens Big Ten tournament play tonight. Head coach Micah Shrewsberry’s Nittany Lions are the 10-seed. They face seven-seed Illinois. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network. BTN+ will also stream the contest from the United Center in Chicago. Bracket experts have the team sitting inside the NCAA Tournament field at the start of the day. A victory would solidify that standing.
Finally, for this section, we’ll note that former Lions receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield has a new job. He has taken the same position at Air Force. He previously coached the Falcons’ pass catchers from 2017 until the end of the 2018 season.
