The Clemson baseball program is rolling in Year 2 under Erik Bakich. The Tigers are currently 36-10 (17-7) and in position to earn a national seed for the second straight year.

Clemson has an excellent home-field advantage and holds a 24-6 record at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in 2024. However, Bakich believes there is one way in particular that could make the environment even better.

“I mean, I wish we sold beer and had this place get even more rowdy,” Erik Bakich recently said.

While some colleges allow alcohol sales at sporting events, including in-state rival South Carolina, Clemson does not.

The one area where fans are allowed to drink beer at Clemson baseball games is in the Cajun Cafe in right field. It is a private area where fans have gathered to eat and drink while watching Clemson baseball for 20-plus years.

Bakich also has big plans for it.

“I think it’s awesome. I always joke, if I ever get ejected, that’s where I’m going. But it’s great. I think that’s a rowdy section. It gives us energy. We hear them, we feel it. We love it,” Bakich said. “And I think there’s a whole nother level of growth to the Cajun Cafe. I’d love to see the Cajun Cafe be a 12-month-a-year restaurant that serves the Clemson community right out there.

“Still have the VIP area for the original people that started it… but those are things we’ve talked about internally here.”

Clemson baseball entering pivotal stretch of season

Clemson has a huge week of baseball coming up as the Tigers are playing four games in the state of North Carolina this week.

Clemson is facing Charlotte Tuesday night in the Queen City, before playing a three-game series at Wake Forest this weekend.

The Tigers and Demon Deacons are both in position to host regionals at this point, per On3’s projections.

Erik Bakich recently previewed this week’s action.

“Of course we want to play well against Charlotte, but we don’t want to burn people for the weekend,” Bakich said of his pitching plans for the 49ers.

“Week 13 we’ve got a big challenge ahead of us with four road games, four tough games. At Charlotte, in the Knights’ ballpark, home of the ACC Tournament, so a lot of positives doing that, playing a good team. Obviously Wake was No. 1 in the country for a long time. They’re a great team. But for us, we can’t look ahead. … We’ve just gotta stay focused on Charlotte, and I think the guys have been really good about that.”
