On Dec. 17, Arizona State defensive lineman BJ Green committed to Washington. However, after head coach Kalen DeBoer left the program to take over at Alabama, Green re-opened his recruitment. Now, Green has committed to Colorado.

Green spent three seasons with the Sun Devils, making 36 total appearances. In the 2023 campaign, Green logged a career-high 39 tackles, 11.5 tackles for a loss, 6.0 sacks and a forced fumble.

Green contributed every year at Arizona State. He was fourth among FBS interior linemen with 11 QB hits in 2022. He joined the program in 2021 as a walk-on but earned a scholarship after becoming only the fourth freshman in program history to lead the team in sacks.

Prior to enrolling at Arizona State, BJ Green was an unranked prospect out of Bogart (GA) Prince Avenue Christian School. On3 has rated him as a four-star prospect as a transfer.

Colorado continues to build strong defense

Green is only the latest player to join Colorado’s monstrous incoming transfer class. The group includes four former four-star prospects and 17 former three-star recruits. Green is one of seven defensive linemen Colorado has added in the portal. The program has also picked up two EDGEs.

While Colorado has added plenty of defensive talent, the program isn’t yet certain who will lead the fresh faces. Colorado defensive coordinator Charles Kelly left the program after the season to serve the same role at Auburn.

Sanders recently was a guest on former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Robert Griffin III‘s podcast, RG3 and The Ones. During his appearance, Sanders provided an update on Colorado’s coaching search.

“It might be out of three people right now. They’re in interviews as well,” Sanders said. “They’re really good, they really are relational, and they really know this game; know this game and can utilize what we have here and take them to the next level.”

Although Sanders didn’t divulge much about who his top three candidates are, it appears as if a decision will be made soon. By the look of it, the Colorado head coach is taking his time to ensure he chooses the right person for the job.

Colorado’s defense struggled last season. The Buffaloes’ defense allowed 453.3 opponent yards per game, the fourth-most in the nation. With a new defensive coordinator and a revamped roster, Colorado will aim to take a major leap forward next season.
