After starting SEC play at 3-1, Georgia had a bad week by dropping their games at Kentucky and against Vanderbilt. Based on how they went down, sophomore forward Jabri Abdur-Rahim said it was all on the Bulldogs players.

Abdur-Rahim said the players didn’t do a good job with the scouting report following Saturday’s loss to the Commodores. For example, he said they knew Vandy had several shooters on their roster yet they allowed them to shoot 47.6% from deep in Athens. It’s the little things like that which Abdur-Rahim says shows he and his teammates that they have to be better.

“Just got to be better, gotta be better. We tried to respond from the Kentucky loss. And we just didn’t do the things that we talked about with the game plan,” said Abdur-Rahim. “We knew going into the game they had really good shooters and they probably shot close to 50% from three.”

“We just didn’t do a good job of doing what the coaches asked. That’s on us,” Abdur-Rahim noted. “We’ve got to be better.”

It was a frustrating week for the program after they’d entered it at 13-4 overall. First, they let go of the rope after being up 11 in Lexington as they eventually lost by 14 to the Wildcats. Following that loss, Georgia’s largest lead against Vanderbilt was only three as the Commodores controlled the rest of the game in Athens after the first four minutes.

Still, Abdur-Rahim provided a positive spin as well after the 85-82 defeat this weekend. Their schedule will allow them to have another chance at redemption in Knoxville on Wednesday night. While it’s a tall task to potentially knock off No. 4 Tennessee in their house, it’s an opportunity nonetheless as he says the Bulldogs will be ready for it.

“The good thing about basketball is we’ve got another one Tuesday (or) Wednesday against a really, really good team,” said Abdur-Rahim. “We’re gonna go look at the film, work hard in practice, and get ready for Tennessee.”
