The Kentucky Wildcats received arguably the best gift they could have asked for this offseason when former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Brock Vandagriff left Athens, GA, and joined their program. The move not only gave the Wildcats a much-needed boost at quarterback but also delivered a blow to the depth at the position for one of their biggest rivals.

The individuals most elated about Vandagriff’s move to Kentucky have to be the Wildcat receivers. On Thursday, the star of the group, Dane Key, had an interview with the SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum on the Paul Finebaum Show, where the two discussed the excitement surrounding the addition of Vandergriff.

“Just working with Brock, it’s been very fun,” said Key. “He’s a ballplayer and he’s also a really good leader that we’re so happy to have on this team because he just brings a lot to the table. With everybody being around him and all the other guys clicking with him, all the other guys on the team, even the defensive guys, are clicking with Brock. And that’s not really normal but he’s such a good leader that everybody on the team is starting to click with him.”

In his two seasons at Kentucky, Key has finished both years with six touchdown receptions. From his freshman to sophomore season, he saw his name called a few more times, recording 42 catches for 636 yards compared to 37 catches for 519 yards in 2022.

With Vandagriff now running the show and bringing in some national championship experience, Key and the rest of the Kentucky wide receivers are looking to take their game to the next level in 2024. Which makes it a good thing that they are developing such a strong relationship with their quarterback during spring practice, but not just them; the entire team is looking to really behind Vanadgriff’s leadership.

More on Vandagriff

Vandagriff came out of the state of Georiga, where he was a five-star prospect. He was the No. 22 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He finished as the No. 4 QB in the class behind only Quinn Ewers, Caleb Williams, and Sam Huard. He was the No. 2 player out of the state as well, behind just OT Amarius Mims.

Vandagriff spent the first three seasons of his collegiate career at Georgia as a backup for the Bulldogs. In that time, he appeared in 13 games and completed 57.1% of his throws for 165 yards and two scores.
