The Kentucky Wildcats suffered their first loss since the SEC Tournament on Monday night against the Texas A&M Aggies. Now, the Wildcats are facing elimination in a game against the Florida Gators.

Following the loss to Texas A&M, Ryan Nicholson and Nolan McCarthy of Kentucky expressed their confidence as the Wildcats prepare to face elimination.

“I don’t really think it’s going to be difficult at all,” Ryan Nicholson said. “Same approach as we came into today. Just tomorrow we’re playing Florida, I guess. Other than that, just the same mindset. We’re going to come out. We’re going to try to put the ball on the ball and play good defense and pitch it well. I wouldn’t say there’s added pressure or anything like that that we’re feeling going into tomorrow.”

Kentucky lost to Texas A&M 5-1 in Omaha. The game had been a pitchers’ duel going into the sixth inning. That’s when everything went sideways for the Wildcats. They gave up five runs in the inning and were never able to truly get the bats going themselves.

“I think if we got down on ourselves we wouldn’t be in this spot today,” Nolan McCarthy said. “There’s going to be no sour faces in the locker room tomorrow. We’re going to come out ready to go. And back against the wall, but it’s the same game, same baseball game.”

Now, Kentucky is getting ready to take on Florida in an elimination game that will be played on Tuesday night.

Back in May, Kentucky took two out of three games from Florida in Gainesville. Notably, both of Kentucky’s wins in that series came in extra innings. Their loss was a 10-1 game. So, it’s safe to say that the Gators are more than capable of ending the Wildcats’ season.

Nick Mingione: Kentucky will have hands full in elimination game vs. Florida

Ahead of the elimination game between Kentucky and Florida, Wildcats head coach Nick Mingione admitted his team will have its hands full.

“They’ve played great of late. When you just think about what they had to do to even make the postseason, you give them so much credit. That last weekend what they did in Georgia, and obviously they’ve been playing really good since. And you know what, they took the hard path here. They were on the road for both the Regional and Super. And this league, you know this, but every week and every — every week it seems like teams can change. And this is a team that we’re facing tomorrow that’s been there, done that. They’re well-coached as you know,” Mingione said.

“Yeah, we’ll definitely have our hands full. But they’re not the same team from when we played them a couple of weeks ago.”
