Ohio State linebacker Nigel Glover entered the NCAA transfer portal. He started his career at Northwestern before playing for the Buckeyes.

He originally signed with Northwestern out of high school but transferred out upon the firing of Pat Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald was relieved of his duties amid a hazing scandal.

Glover was the highest ranked player in Northwestern’s class last year. But he did not see time with Ohio State last fall and took a redshirt year.

As a member of the Class of 2023, Glover was a four-star recruit out of Dayton (Ohio) Northmont, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 10 overall prospect in the state, the No. 31 linebacker in the class and the No. 306 overall prospect in the class.

“We’ve known about Nigel for a long time,” Buckeyes defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said last summer. “And, really, it’s his attitude — the way that he wants to improve, that he’s he’s so into the X’s and O’s. He’s that kind of kid. He’s the kind of kid that’s coachable and wants to learn.”

Among the teams in the mix for Glover’s services last year were Kentucky, Michigan State and Michigan. During his high school recruitment, Illinois, Miami (OH) and West Virginia were involved.

Nigel Glover not apart of 2024 campaign for Ohio State

Spencer Holbrook of Lettermen Row joined Andy Staples On3 on YouTube, where he elaborated on the belief that the 2024 version of head coach Ryan Day is one who’s adjusted his mentality, with the goal of a national title in mind.

“Well, and that’s the thing I find interesting,” Staples prefaced the conversation. “He did it at the 50 yard line, in front of the whole crowd. He said, ‘The goal is to win a national championship, and beat the team up North.’ Interesting. I don’t know that he was looking at the order necessarily. Well, this year, you don’t have to do the first if you want to do the other.

“You may have to do it eventually, if you want to do the other, but you don’t have to do it. Maybe the first opportunity. But that is as direct as you’re gonna get from a college football coach. Like normally, coaches won’t even mention a national championship. They won’t talk about it, but he just came out said it.”
