The ascension of Bellefontaine (Ohio) quarterback Tavien St. Clair continues.

At one time considered a three-star prospect when he committed to the Buckeyes, St. Clair has skyrocketed up the recruiting rankings after a huge junior season. On Wednesday, he earned five-star status in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

After the latest rankings updates from across the industry, St. Clair checks in as the nation’s No. 15 overall prospect and No. 4 quarterback, as well as the top recruit in the Buckeye State.

“Tavien St. Clair had a breakout junior season on the heels of a strong run of camp showings last off-season,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote last month. “At 6-foot-3.5, 210 pounds, St. Clair owns a readymade frame with very good arm strength and solid functional athleticism. He turned in a productive season, completing 70.6% of his passes for 3,083 yards and 37 touchdowns against six interceptions in addition to 352 yards and four scores on the ground. St. Clair will need continued seasoning with is overall consistency and decision-making, but the degree of progress he showed as a junior is encouraging.

St Clair. made an early commitment to the Buckeyes back in June 2023, choosing Ryan Day and his staff over offers from Toledo, Louisville, Florida and a handful of others. At the time, he wasn’t known as a major national prospect, but has certainly put people on notice with his meteoric jump in the past nine-plus months.

St. Clair leads an elite early class for the Buckeyes

When he committed in June, the dynamic signal-caller became the centerpiece that Day and Co. planned to build around. Since then, has added seven more commitments. And St. Clair has had a hand in building the nation’s No. 2 class in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

“I made a big summer trip and I felt like I had seen a lot of the top programs, but after seeing them I made another trip to Ohio State and I was real comfortable with the staff, the university,” St. Clair said. “I didn’t want to wait around, I wanted to start building the class so I felt like it was the right time to do it.”

Joining him in the Buckeyes class are fellow five-stars Devin Sanchez and Na’eem Offord, ranked No. 5 and No. 6 in the updated rankings, respectively.

OSU’s class also includes top-40 overall prospect Carter Lowe, top-100 defensive back Blake Woodby, top-75 EDGE Zahir Mathis, four-star wide receiver Jayvan Boggs and three-star linebacker Eli Lee.
