According to the Oxford Eagle, former Ole Miss basketball player and member of the 2023-24 team, the 7-foot-5 Jamarion Sharp, has been arrested for shooting at a person.

The Eagle wrote that a “former member of the University of Mississippi Men’s Basketball team was arrested Friday for allegedly shooting at a repo man.” That man was Sharp, who fired at the man as he was trying to repossess a vehicle.

“During their investigation, detectives discovered that a vehicle was in the process of being repossessed when Jamarion Demontrez Sharp, 22, of Oxford fired a gun toward the person repossessing the vehicle.”

Thankfully, nobody was injured in the incident, but Sharp was taken to jail.

“No one was injured. Sharp was taken into custody and transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was booked for aggravated assault. He was given a $100,000 bond by the Municipal Court Judge.”

Tough news about the recent Rebel.

Background on Sharp’s college career

The mammoth 7’5 center spent time at three different schools and was the tallest player in the NCAA this past season, which he played at Ole Miss. Sharp landed in Oxford as part of Chris Beard’s inaugural team and was brought in to participate in a rotation of elite rim protectors alongside Oklahoma State import and fellow seven-footer Moussa Cisse.

Sharp came off the bench as Cisse enjoying the lion’s share of minutes. At his height, Sharp’s never been well-conditioned for playing more than 20 minutes a game anyways, and played 15.8 per night for the Rebels, providing 3.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per night.

He spent the two prior seasons as a full-time starter for Western Kentucky, recording 4.6 blocks per game in 2021-22 then 4.1 per game this past season in 2022-23. He led the NCAA in blocks per game during both seasons with the Hilltoppers, winning two Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year awards in the process. In 2022-23, Sharp also made the All-Conference USA Team

Even before WKU, Sharp played two seasons at the John A. Logan College in Illinois. He’s originally from Carterville, Indiana but played high school basketball in Hopkinsville, Kentucky before hopping over to Illinois, then back to Kentucky, then down to Ole Miss.

Despite his height, Sharp came out of high school overlooked as a recruit and was unrated by the major recruiting services back in the class of 2019.
