Former Kansas State center Jerrell Colbert has committed to SMU, he announced on social media. Colbert began his career at LSU.

Colbert has multiple years of eligibility remaining. SMU will be his third college team ahead of his fourth college season.

Colbert played his high school basketball at Houston High School in Germantown, Tennessee. There, he played for 17-year NBA veteran Mike Miller. In 2020-21, he was named Memphis Commercial Appeal Second Team All-Metro.

After high school, Colbert initially chose to go to LSU where he played as a freshman in the 2021-22 season. That was the last season that Will Wade was the head coach at LSU and the next year, he chose to transfer to Kansas State.

In the 2022-23 season, Colbert took a redshirt, not seeing any action. However, by the 2023-24 season, he became a key piece for the Wildcats, playing in 31 games and getting 13 starts. He averaged 2.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game.

However, it was a disappointing season on the whole for the Kansas State Wildcats. The team put together a record of 19-15. That was good for a tie for ninth place in the Big 12 during the regular season and saw Kansas State earn a bid in the NIT. There, the Wildcats lost in the first round to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

SMU has landed another notable big man from the portal

Former UC Santa Barbara forward Yohan Traore recently committed to Andy Enfield and SMU, he told On3.

Traore began his college career at Auburn, but played sparingly for the Tigers. A class of 2022 signee, Traore will have multiple years of eligibility to use.

Traore averaged 14.5 points per game for the Gauchos, starting all 30 games he played and averaging nearly 29 minutes a night. Those were all major improvements from his freshman season at Auburn, where Traore played in 25 games but did not start.

Traore played high school basketball at Dream City (Ari.) Christian School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 23 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
