The 2025 season looks a whole lot different for Tennessee than it did a few weeks ago. Head coach Josh Heupel will have a new quarterback under center. Nico Iamaleava is no longer with the program, entering the NCAA transfer portal before landing at UCLA.

Now, nobody is quite sure how the Vols will stack up with questions at QB. One metric can provide answers, though, looking at Tennessee’s season win total. Fan Duel provided an opening line, setting the over/under at 8.5 games.

Taking the over, meaning Tennessee goes at least 9-3 during the regular season, is priced at -122. Going the other way at 8-4 or worse can be gotten at +100.

Heupel is entering his fifth season as the head coach in Knoxville. The past three have been considered a resounding success, having 30 wins. Tennessee made the College Football Playoff last year, the first time they have been included in the event.

From an SEC play standpoint, the opponent list is the same as last season. The venues are just flipped, putting the Vols in some intimidating environments. However, it’s nothing Heupel has not dealt with during his tenure.

Urban Meyer predicts Tennessee goes under 2025 win total

Tennessee is projected to have a much different season post-spring than they did pre-spring, considering what happened last month. That has Urban Meyer taking the under on the Volunteers for now, going into 2025.

Meyer, along with Rob Stone, looked at the Vols’ win total of 8.5 during ‘The Triple Option’ this week. That started with a neutral-site game against Syracuse in Atlanta, which they’re a 12.5-point favorite in as of now per the early line from Vegas. The duo had Tennessee winning that game. That made Tennessee 2-0 after the following weekend with a second win against East Tennessee State in Neyland.

“I’d go advantage Tennessee but that’s going to be a tough game. That’s going to be a tough one,” Meyer said. “I mean, on paper, Tennessee has got better players. That’s a fact. That’s the way it is.”

The SEC, though, is where Tennessee starts to take some losses. Meyer had their first defeat coming when Georgia comes to Rocky Top in mid-September and another coming to Alabama in Tuscaloosa in mid-October.

“They lose,” Meyer said of their chances against the Bulldogs. “No,” Meyer said as well about the game against ‘Bama.
