There are high expectations on Texas and Quinn Ewers entering the 2024 season. After reaching the College Football Playoff last year, the Longhorns are being discussed as national title contenders for 2024.

This was an important spring for Ewers entering his final season of college football as Texas lost several weapons off of last year’s roster.

Following the spring game last month, he spoke with the Longhorn Network about what he enjoyed most about this spring.

“I would say just getting back out there on the field with all these guys out here,” Quinn Ewers said. “I think we’ve done a great job of just taking advantage of each opportunity we’ve had this spring.”

Texas had 14 practices over the course of the spring, leading into the spring game on April 20. Ewers didn’t play a ton in the spring game, but he still feels good about what the Longhorns accomplished over the past several weeks.

Texas will now look to carry over that momentum into the summer and eventually into fall camp.

“You don’t get a whole lot of time in the springtime, so you’ve really got to take advantage of each day you get,” Ewers said. “You get 14 practices and ultimately the spring game. But then again, just being out here with all my guys [is great].”

Rece Davis: Quinn Ewers’ leash is ‘really, really long’ despite Arch Manning’s potential

While Quinn Ewers didn’t play much in the spring game, Arch Manning did and impressed. The former five-star recruit threw for 355 yards and three touchdowns on the afternoon, stealing the show.

Still, Rece Davis believes there’s no real quarterback competition at Texas.

“I haven’t talked to [Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian] but, judging from last year and his trust in Quinn, I think the leash is really, really long for Quinn,” Davis said recently on The Pat McAfee Show. “I don’t think he’ll need a lot of it because he’s a really good player who’s changed his approach to football and to his career and has been been more serious about it.

“He reshaped his body. He worked harder in film. He became a much better leader. Cut his hair. The whole thing. I think he is going to have a long leash. I think he’s the undisputed No. 1. I don’t anticipate him struggling but it’s a good thing to have someone who’s as talented as Arch sitting there waiting if in fact something happens and they need him to play. But, I think there’s a clear pecking order there.”
