Arizona transfer and former Indiana CB Jordan Shaw commits to Washington

Indiana transfer Jordan Shaw has found a third new home in the last year. The true freshman cornerback originally entered the transfer portal and committed to Arizona, but has now flipped to Washington.

Of course, Shaw follows new Husky head coach Jedd Fisch, who was the coach at Arizona before taking the UW job to follow in Kalen DeBoer’s footsteps after he left for Alabama. Shaw had committed to the Wildcats just weeks before Fisch left, and once the Arizona coach made his move to the pacific northwest, he hopped right back in the portal on Jan. 17 before ultimately following Fisch and committing to Washington.

Prior to his commitments with the former Pac-12 schools, Shaw enjoyed sparse playing time as a rookie with Indiana. He appeared in just four total games and will retain his redshirt status for the season if he so wishes; and in those contests, he actually came through with some decent numbers.

Shaw made 12 total tackles, deflected one pass and even contributed half a sack in his limited time on the field for the Hoosiers.

The one-year stop in Bloomington is the outlier for this west coast kid as Shaw played high school football for St. Pius X – St. Matthias Academy in Downey, California. Per the On3 Industry Rankings, Shaw was a three-star prospect in the 2023 class and was also rated the No. 590 overall recruit and No. 51 player out of California for his cycle.

More on Washington transfer class

Oddly enough, Arizona and Washington rank right next to one another at the moment in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings at No. 67 and No. 68. Obviously, the loss of a head coach is likely to cause such an exodus, but at this point in the season, the pickings are much slimmer in the portal.

With this commitment, perhaps Fisch is signaling a plan to bring some of his Wildcat players with him. Although, star quarterback Noah Fifita and 1,400-yard wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan have both announced that they will remain in Tucson despite the coaching change. Still, 21 Arizona players have transferred out with a number of them remaining uncommitted.

Perhaps Jordan Shaw is just one of the first of several dominoes to fall when it comes to the Arizona-to-Washington pipeline following Jedd Fisch’s hire.
