The high school football coaching carousel never truly stops. Chisholm Trail head coach Ricklan Holmes announced his departure for a position at Arlington ISD in June, and on Thursday the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw school district announced Marvin Nash as his replacement.

A native of New Waverly, Nash returns to the high school football ranks after spending the last two years working at the college level. He joined the Rice Owls staff as Director of Recruiting Operations in 2023 and had just recently been hired away by Lane Kiffin to serve as Assistant Director of Player Personnel at Ole Miss. Nash was recognized by Our Coaching Network in 2024 as one of the rising personnel staffers in college football.

Before joining the Owls, Nash had spent 15 years coaching at high schools across Texas. He served as the offensive coordinator at San Marcos and before that was part of state champion staffs at Denton Guyer.

A 2003 graduate of Austin College, Nash played safety and linebacker for the Kangaroos and was a two-time all-conference selection and four-year letterman.

Nash will not have much time to get settled in Fort Worth. He takes over a Rangers program that will kick off its 2025 season against Seagoville in exactly 50 days.

About Chisholm Trail

Chisholm Trail’s 6-5 record in 2024 may seem modest by some standards, but in fact it represented the best season in school history. Not only did Rangers make their playoff debut – losing to Aledo in the first round – but they also finished above .500 for the first time ever.

The football program has struggled to find its footing since the school first opened its doors in 2012. Prior to last year, Chisolm Trail had won one or fewer district games in 10 of its 13 seasons. The Rangers didn’t even win their first homecoming game until 2016.

Nash inherits a roster that will need to replace starting quarterback Joey McGowen and two-way standout Omari Johnson. Rising senior Taven Fleming should step in for McGowen, and the return of running back William Quintana-Rodriguez should take some pressure off of the first-year starter.
