Auburn has long held a commitment from Boynton Beach (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna four-star wide receiver Denairius Gray, one of the top 2026 pass-catchers in the Sunshine State. He committed to the Tigers last January and remains in the fold over 16 months later.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder has continued to keep his process open, however. He took an official visit to Washington at the end of April, and on Monday, he announced that he’ll head to Raleigh and take an OV to NC State on the weekend of May 30:

At the beginning of March, Dave Doeren’s program was mentioned by On3’s Chad Simmons as one keeping contact with Gray. The Wolfpack are currently without a blue-chipper in the 2026 cycle and Gray would be a key name to try and help build some momentum on the recruiting trail.

“His commitment may not be as strong as it once was, but Auburn is still a favorite,” Simmons wrote about Gray.

“I am committed, but still open too,” Gray told Simmons back in January. “I haven’t signed anything, so I will visit some different schools and see how things play out.”

He made the long trek to Seattle two weekends ago. Washington has began to surge on the trail, landing five-star offensive tackle Kodi Greene and four-star EDGE Derek Colman-Brusa, bumping its class up to No. 17 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Auburn currently sits at No. 14 nationally. Gray is one of two blue-chip receivers committed to the Tigers, alongside Douglasville (Ga.) Douglas County four-star Devin Carter. No prospect has been pledged to Hugh Freeze and AU longer than Gray.

He is the No. 285 overall prospect and No. 45 WR in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 41 player in Florida.

Just four prospects are committed to the Wolfpack, as of May 5. Four states are represented, too.

Baltimore Milford Mill Academy three-star safety Koby Sarkodie is a top-20 recruit in Maryland and the top-ranked prospect committed to NC State thus far. He pledged on Feb. 3.

Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episcopal School three-star offensive tackle Brady Sakowitz is the No. 19 player in Virginia, while Paramus (N.J.) Catholic three-star linebacker Jordan Moreta is the No. 20 prospect in New Jersey. Moreta committed two days after Sarkodie.

Back in August, NC State picked up a quarterback commitment this cycle via Pfafftown (N.C.) Reagan three-star QB Jacob Smith. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder is now the No. 84 signal-caller in the cycle. Smith is also a baseball commit.

“It’s very family oriented,” Smith told The Wolfpacker. “Coach Doeren and coach Roper did a really good job recruiting me and my family, and I feel like that was the best place for me because they put family first.”
