As Kentucky and Ole Miss prepare for an SEC showdown that will present an interesting contrast of styles, the playcallers on both sides of the matchup are tipping their caps to each other.

Earlier this week, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said the Kentucky defense looks “like an NFL defense,” heaping praise on the Wildcats.

Kentucky defensive coordinator Brad White was having none of it on Wednesday.

“Don’t listen to that,” he said jokingly.

Riffing on the NFL defense line, White tossed it straight back to the Rebels.

“Well this feels like we’re going against the Super Bowl Rams, the single Greatest Show on Turf,” he said.

Jokes aside, White is anticipating a tough challenge going against Kiffin. The two will dial up plays against each other and look for any schematic edge they can find.

White joked that’s not always the most fun proposition in the world.

“The ulcers would probably say no,” he said. “No, obviously it’s a great challenge for everybody. It’s a great challenge for our players, it’s a great challenge for our staff. We understand he’s as good of an offensive mind as there is in football, not just college football, but football in general. His ability to adapt offensive schemes to be effective is unique and rare and special.

“And so, yeah, I mean it’s not just the players, it’s hard on all of us. And the tempo in which they play, along with the skill and the precision of which they call plays, there’s a reason they’re the No. 1 offense in the country.”

The matchup between the two programs will pit Kentucky’s sixth-ranked total defense against Ole Miss’ first-ranked total offense. It’ll be a classic case of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object.

Who comes out on top? That’s why they play the games.

Kentucky and Ole Miss are scheduled for a 12 p.m. ET kickoff, with a national broadcast on ABC.
